The accused in the Jisha murder case, Ameerul Islam, has been awarded death sentence by the Ernakulam chief judicial magistrate court today. Earlier in the day, he was brought before the court for the quantum of punishment. Islam has been found guilty of raping and murdering law student Jisha.
Ameerul has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Sec 449 (house-trespass), one year in prison and Rs 1,000 fine under Section 342 (wrongful confinement), 10 years imprisonment and Rs 15,000 fine under Section 376 (rape), life imprisonment and Rs 25,000 fine under Section 376 (a) (causing death/resulting in persistent vegetative state) and the death penalty and a fine of Rs 25,000 under Section 302 (Murder).
Jisha’s mother Rajeshwari who met the reporters in court premises told that she was happy about the verdict. No other girl should have this situation said the weeping mother. ADGP B Sandhya who headed the Special Investigation Team expressed pride for being part of the investigation team. “We are happy and proud by the way the investigation was carried out. The accused has been convicted based on scientific evidences gathered during the investigation. This is a proud moment for us”, Sandhya said.
The 29-year-old law student, Jisha was brutally raped and murdered on April 28 last year. Her body had sustained at least 30 injuries, including in her private parts.
