A Keralite priest from Kalpetta of Kerala’s Wayanad district, who was accused of sexually abusing teenage boys aged between 14 and 15 years, was arrested on Tuesday. The priest, who was on the run for the last three days, was arrested by the police from Mangaluru and brought to Meenangadi in Wayanad.
The victims were staying at ‘Balbhavan’ children’s home in Meenangadi where the priest was working. Father Saji Joseph, who was allegedly sexually assaulting the boy’s since March 2015, was exposed after one of the children shared the ordeal with his parents officials reported.
The official said Joseph has been charged under section 377 (unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code, and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and the Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) Act.
This is the second incident of sexual offence by a priest in Kerala this year. On February 28, Father Robin Vaddakumchiryil (48), the bishop of St Sebastian church in Kotiyoor was arrested, after minor girl gave birth to a baby after being raped by him.
